Panasonic Genuine Inverter Type Magnetron 2M236-M1
Panasonic part number: 2M236-M1 this is also equivalent to the 2M236-M1G magnetron
This magnetron is fitted to some Panasonic inverter type microwaves. Some microwaves such as Bosch and Siemens also use this magnetron as they are rebranded Panasonic ovens. These ovens are upmarket models and are normally well worth repairing.
The 2M236-M1G is the offline version of the 2M236 magnetron, ie the airflow goes against the direction of the mounting brackets. This magnetron is used in some convection oven models. The offline construction allows horizontal mounting of the magnetron which is required in some models. Please note this item is not suitable for replacement of the 2M236-M42. Please see our other listings in the cross selling link below for this item. We also have available the 2M261-M32 which is a version fitted to earlier inverter models. Please get in touch for details.
An inverter microwave oven is one without a high voltage transformer You will know you have one as it is not extremely heavy at one end. This type of microwave uses a high power DC converter, called an inverter, to produce the high voltage and filament voltage required by the magnetron.
If you purchase this item for replacement in your microwave then we recommend that you do this only if you are qualified and aware of the dangers of tampering with electrical equipment.
Failure of this magnetron is common. An instruction sheet with basic guidelines on fitting will be provided but please do not purchase this item unless you are confident about fitting it. We only accept returns if the magnetron supplied is defective which is extremely unlikely.
We fit lots of these magnetrons, it is a common fault, and there is not much we don't know about this type of oven. We can provide technical assistance regarding repair of your oven if you purchase parts from us. If you have one of these ovens that is not cooking then it is worthwhile looking at the magnetron. It often shows signs of distress through overheating. The magnet can be cracked, the plastic airguide can be partially melted and the magnetron can be discoloured. The magnetron leads a hard life in these ovens and they can overheat. It is important to check the airflow from the fan as the rear vent often becomes blocked with dust. If this is the case then you must clear the rear air vent of all dust and grime.
Please see our other listings for other microwave parts for these and other models. Parts such as:
In some cases you may require a replacement plastic air guide as this can melt if the magnetron overheats.
It is strongly recommended that you replace the oven lamp as failure of the lamp is quite common. We find that when the original type of oven lamp fails damage can be caused to the control panel DU pcb assembly. The reason for this is that as the lamp fails it can go momentarily short circuit and the pcb tracks get blown open before the main fuse fails. It is worthwhile considering a new lamp as it will prevent this from happening. New lamps have fuses fitted inside them. The correct lamp for most Panasonic inverter ovens is the Lamp with base type A and you will find this in our microwave parts section. Please look at the photographs as some ovens use a lamp with right angled terminals which is also available in the microwave parts section. If you purchase this lamp you will save £1.00 on postage.
