New 1 ohm 100 watt dummy load impedance match audio amp

one NEW IN BOX 100 watt 1 ohm RESISTOR with variable band to adjust anywere from 0 to 1 ohm. Vitereous enameled.
info stamped on it:ohmite 1 ohms 100 watt d100k iro no. 0956A
NOT sure of tolerance, but measured with fluke meter at 1.0 ohm
has about 35 to 40 windings/adjustable tap settings.
two in series(connected end to end) =2 ohm, 4 in series = 4 ohm, 8 in series= 8 ohm or adjust bands to make custom fractional load such as 4.5 ohm.
One use is for heavy duty speaker dummy load or impedance matching- as below.
An example of how we have used these. Say you have an amplifier rated at 4 ohms output and you have added more speakers and your load is now 2 or 3 ohms and your amp starts going into overload shutdown/protect due to low impedance, but you have plenty of extra headroom on the amp as far as the volume setting. Because you do not need the full headroom/ full volume (such as a business setting or a church monitor system),Rather than replace the expensive amp, you can add one or more in series to increase the impedance the amplfier sees (a 3 ohm speaker load plus 1 ohm resistor in series = 4 ohm load the amp sees, or a 2 ohm load plus two 1 ohm resistors in sereies = 4 ohm) It basically uses a little more of the spare amp power (means you have to may have to turn the amp up) and dumps it into the resistor to match the recommended impedance.
So will this work for an amplifier rated higher than the 100 watts?- Usually it will, as the speakers and wiring to them will "use" some of the power and the amp rarely runs at its full rating anyhow- often fluxuating at a fraction thereof, in the same way a 600 watt amp can run some 100 watt speakers without cooking them. But, If you ARE frying 100 watt speakers, then this is not the best solution.
Note this will not work if you are running the amp at full volume and are overloading the amp with no headroom- in that case you need another amplifier-period
(We recommend housing in a metal electrical box, such as multigang switch box, in case it gets hot- which is normal under full load. Because the resistor is hollow, it is easily mounted on a long screw, bolt or threaded rod)
